Vintage Cocktails FAQ:
Mixing and Moderation
I’m a lightweight when it comes to drinking, and I’m afraid
of hard liquor. That’s why I usually have just a glass of wine or
a beer. Will your vintage cocktails get me drunk?
If you have enough of them, yes, you will certainly get drunk.
Rest assured, if a glass of wine doesn’t make you drunk, one of our
cocktails won’t, either. Most of our cocktails have alcohol content
equal to that of a six-ounce glass of wine. Armed with this knowledge, there’s
no reason for you to fear hard liquor more than beer or wine.
If one Vintage Cocktail contains gin, and another has rum in it, can I try
them both? Or will mixing different liquors get me drunk faster?
If I mix different liquors will I get a hangover?
Let’s clear up a couple of things.
I often hear variations of stories like this: “Last night I had three
beers before supper and then a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, then
two bourbons on the rocks. I woke up with such a hangover. I knew I shouldn’t
have mixed my drinks.”
A hangover in this situation isn’t surprising, but the mixing of drinks
had nothing to do with it.
Here’s the straight dope:
Myth: Mixing drinks will give you a hangover.
Fact: Drinking too much will give you a hangover.
Myth: Mixing different spirits makes you drunk faster.
Fact: Drinking too much too quickly will get you drunk. Fast.
So go ahead and try different cocktails, but if you want to stay sober and
avoid a hangover, be moderate in your consumption. It’s that simple. |
